Digital Signage Network
The UTSA Digital Signage system is a new and growing network across campus. The current system contains 23 displays. There is an expansion planned for summer 2009 that will add an additional 14 displays.
The UTSA Digital Signage programming system is very dynamic. Promotional graphics or videos can be specifically targeted to a screen, building, campus or targeted campus wide. Scheduling and rotation of the graphics depends on saturation and amount of other content programmed in the system at a specific point in time. Additional internal scheduling matches like content for viewing continuity. Most graphics are visible for 15 seconds. Special Campus events are scheduled for 30 seconds. High Profile events can be scheduled for 60 seconds.
The native resolution of the displays is 1024 X 768. If you are designing a graphic for the display, set you resolution to the specifications above. On non-graphic programs, please set you page to a landscape orientation. Images that are smaller or created by an application that does not allow scaling will be stretched and displayed poorly. Flyers, posters and other images that are created in a portrait orientation are reduced to a smaller size because of screen orientation and therefore the content is difficult to read.
Because of display orientation and space limitations, please simplify your content and focus your message. We feel that we have 10 seconds to capture the attention of the viewers. If you can not read the content in 10 to 15 seconds, please simplify your content. Please list the “5 W’s”…who, what, when, where and why of your promotion. Feel free to design your graphic or send your content to us to design a graphic for you.
Videos are viewed in the 16:9 format or widescreen. The majority if the video files played by the system are mpg2. The videos are scheduled separate from other graphics. For special events as mentioned above, videos and graphics can be grouped to work together. Please keep traditional production standards in mind for your videos with reference to the audio, video and timeframe. Video Promotions should be: 30, :60 or :90 second in length. Longer videos are fine on condition that the video meets the scheduling limitation of ending on the minute. For example, a 5 minute video is fine, but a 5 minute 4 second or 5 minute 44 second video does not work well for system programming.
